A preventive maintenance schedule is only as good as the reasoning behind it. For rotating equipment — pumps, motors, gearboxes, and fans — that reasoning should combine manufacturer intervals with the real operating conditions and criticality of each asset. Not every machine deserves the same attention.
Start by ranking equipment by consequence of failure. Critical assets earn tighter inspection intervals, vibration checks, and lubrication routes; less critical ones can run on simpler schedules. This risk-based approach concentrates effort where it prevents the most costly failures.
Document each task, assign it, and review the schedule as failure data accumulates. A living PM plan that adapts to what your equipment is actually telling you will always outperform a static checklist.
